Pracaxi

Pracaxi (Pentaclethra macroloba) develops in floodplain areas and grows along riverbanks. The states where this plant is abundant are Roraima, Pará, Amapá, Bahia, Acre, and Amazonas.

Reaching up to 14 meters, this medium-sized tree yields a fruit very similar to a pod, about 20 centimeters long. Oil from the seeds is well used by local people for a variety of medicinal and general purposes.

Properties

Pracaxi oil has the highest known concentration of behenic acid. It also has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, healing, insecticidal, humectant, depurative, and whitening properties. It is a powerful agent in reducing stretch marks. The plant is popularly used to treat snake bites, heal ulcers, and in dermal afterbirth care.
