Guava

Guava (Psidium guajava), is native to tropical America and is present in all regions of Brazil. Its enormous dispersion in the American continent probably occurred due to the irresistible attraction that birds and other small animals have to its delicate and penetrating perfume. From South and Central America, the guava was taken by European explorers to African and Asian colonies, spreading to all tropical regions of the globe.

Properties

Guava improves the health of the gastrointestinal tract, increases the body’s defenses, and promotes weight loss. It also promotes skin health, since it is rich in fiber and other nutrients, such as vitamins A, B, and C. Its carotenoids, especially lycopene, are an important element in the prevention of some types of cancer.

Versatility

Guava’s natural oil is widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The fruit is used in the food industry in the form of jellies, pastes, puree, and baby food. It is also a popular base for drinks, refreshments, juices, and syrups.
