Acerola

Acerola (Malpighia emarginata) is a hardy and resistant plant that is easily propagated all over the world. Its growth is especially outstanding in Brazil as it adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates.

The bright red fruit is similar to the European cherry and has great economic importance. Cultivation in Brazil has increased significantly in the last 20 years and is now consolidated in the northeastern economy.

Properties

Acerola is a powerful source of vitamin C. It contains fiber, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin A, and selenium. In addition, it has some antioxidants such as flavonoids and carotenoids. 

Versatility

Pulp and powder are extracted from the acerola fruit. The pulp is used in the preparation of drinks, juices, desserts, yogurts, and energy bars. The powder is used in the production of food, medicines, and cosmetics such as creams, moisturizers, and shampoos.
