Açaí

Açaí (Euterpe oleracea) grows along the tributaries of the Amazon. The plant and its fruit were discovered by the indigenous people of the forest and to this day serve as a food base for the local population. It is native to Pará, which is home to 90% of Brazil’s açaí production, found largely in the Amazon River estuary. It is also found in the states of Amapá, Amazonas, and Maranhão.

Properties

As a superfruit, açaí is a good source of omegas 6 and 9. It is an excellent antioxidant and contains 19 amino acids, including all the essential nutrients. Açaí juice is also rich in calcium, iron, phosphorus, and vitamins E and B1.

Versatility

Several components are extracted from açaí pulp, such as purée, powder, and extract. Oil is derived from the seed, which can also be transformed into powder and bio-jewelry. Açaí products are indicated for functional, energy, and sports foods and beverages, as well as natural juices, yogurts, and desserts. It is also used in the cosmetics industry, being a highly beneficial active ingredient for anti-aging products.
